Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Yvonne Skillern and I have recently been appointed as Head of School for Highfield Littleport Academy.  The coming months are exciting times with the school building really beginning to take shape.  Highfield Littleport Academy is an all age, area special school catering for students aged 2-19 with a maximum recommended capacity of 110 pupils.  The school will cater for students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs from Autism to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.  State of the art facilities planned are; a fully equipped multi sensory and lights room, an entirely accessible hydrotherapy pool with overhead tracking and a soft play room on site.  Futher specialist rooms are also planned which include a fully equipped Science teaching laboratory (complete with gas taps and fume cupboard!), Art, DT and Food Technology teaching areas as well as fully resourced teaching spaces in order to meet each individual pupils' needs.  A co-ordinated curriculum provision is planned which encompasses our excellent facilties alongside the experience of Highfield Ely - another area Special School within the Active Learning Trust with whom we are working in partnership.  We also aim to have some joint curriculum coverage and work collaboratively with Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy on the same campus, predominantly at Key Stage Four for the students for which this is appropriate.

Last week, the governing body for the two schools met to discuss the Littleport partnerships we are beginning to build.  We intend to offer local people the opportunity to visit the site as early as March so you can see the how far the project has come. It will also be an opportunity to meet myself and Scott Gaskins, the newly appointed Head of School for Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy.   Further information on the format and dates for this will be available in the New Year.  Recruitment for both schools will start after Christmas and we will be selecting the very best teachers and support staff to move the schools forward. We will also be utilising the extensive experience from Highfield Ely Academy in order to fully meet each individuals needs.
